Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP)

The following are active and recently completed HSIP-funded safety projects on roadways under the jurisdiction of local governments in Tampa Bay. Click a project for more information.

 

  • Shady Hills Road - Curve Reconstruction (Project Number 433107-1)

    • Location: Shady Hills Road from SR 52 to 1 mile north of SR 52, Unincorporated Pasco County
    • Description: Reconstruct 5 curves along 1-mile section to improve safety and reduce lane departure crashes
    • This project is managed by Pasco County
    • Construction Cost: $1,984,445
    • Funded in part by the Highway Safety Improvement Program
    • Status: Under construction (as of 12/2015)
  • Harney Road at 78th Street - Intersection Improvement (Project Number 433436-1)

    • Location: Harney Road at 78th Street, Unincorporated Hillsborough County
    • Description: Signal rebuild to improve safety and reduce intersection related crashes
    • This project is managed by Hillsborough County
    • Construction Cost: $1,971,676
    • Funded in part by the Highway Safety Improvement Program
    • Status: Under construction (as of 2014)
  • Gunn Highway - Paved Shoulders (Project Number 434315-1)
    • Location: Gunn Highway from Pasco County line to Dale Mabry Highway, Unincorporated Hillsborough County
    • Description: Installed auditory and vibratory pavement markings to improve safety and reduce the number of lane departure crashes.
    • This project is managed by Hillsborough County
    • Construction Cost: $381,652
    • Funded in part by the Highway Safety Improvement Program
    • Status: Design is nearing completion. Construction is funded in FY 2016.
  • Keystone Road - Paved Shoulders (Project Number 436011-1)
    • Location: Keystone Road (CR 582) from east of East Lake Road to Pinellas/Hillsborough County Line, Unincorporated Pinellas County
    • Description: Installation of paved shoudlers on both sides of the roadway to improve safety and address lane departure & bicycle crashes.
    • This project is managed by Hillsborough County.
    • Construction Cost: $1,594,300
    • Funded in part by the Highway Safety Improvement Program
    • Status: Design is complete. Construction is funded in FY 2017.
  • Gunn Highway at Linebaugh Ave - Signal Rebuild (Project Number 436012-1)
    • Location: The intersection of Gunn Highway and W. Linebaugh Avenue (just west of Dale Mabry Highway), Unincorporated Hillsborough County
    • Description: Rebuild the signal to add one eastbound and one westbound right turn lanes on Linebaugh Avenue, one additional left turn lane on northbound Gunn Highway, and extend the southbound left turn lane along Gunn Highway. The project is intended to improve safety and reduce intersection related crashes.
    • The project is managed by Hillsborough County.
    • Project Cost: $1,537,153
    • Status: Design is complete and the project is currently under construction.
  • South Plant Avenue - "Complete Street" (Project Number 436013-1)​
    • Location: South Plant Avenue from SR 60/W. Kennedy Boulevard to Platt Street, City of Tampa (Hillsborough)
    • Description: This project will reduce the width of existing travel lanes to accommodate bicycle lanes, installation of intersection pedestrian crossings with curb extensions and ADA ramps. Installation of retro reflective back plates at signalized intersections, overhead signing and markings and refurbish on-street parking areas. The intent of the project is to improve safety, reduce intersection related crashes and pedestrian/bicycle crashes.
    • The project is managed by the City of Tampa.
    • Project Cost: $712,293
    • Status: Design is complete and the project is funded for construction in FY 2016.
  • South Hyde Park Avenue - "Complete Street" (Project Number 436013-2)​
    • Location: from SR 60/W. Kennedy Boulevard to Platt Street, City of Tampa (Hillsborough)
    • Description:  This project will reduce the width of existing travel lanes to accommodate bicycle lanes, installation of intersection pedestrian crossings with curb extensions and ADA ramps.   • Himes Avenue - "Complete Street" (Project Number ​437647-1)
    • Location: Himes Avenue from Kennedy Boulevard to Columbus Drive, and Columbus Drive from Himes Avenue to Lincoln Avenue, City of Tampa (Hillsborough)
    • Description: This project will reduce the width of existing travel lanes to accommodate bicycle lanes, installation of intersection pedestrian crossings with curb extensions and ADA ramps.
    • This project is managed by the City of Tampa.
    • Construction Cost: $890,500
    • Status: Design is underway. The project is funded for construction in FY 2018.
  • 34th Street - "Complete Street" & Roundabouts (Project Number 437648-1)​
    • Location: 34th Street from Columbus Drive to US 92/E. Hillsborough Avenue, City of Tampa (Hillsborough)
    • Description: This project will reduce the width and number of existing travel lanes to accommodate turn lanes and bicycle lanes. Install intersection pedestrian crossings with curb extensions and ADA ramps. The project will convert existing intersections at 21st Avenue, Lake Street and Osborne Avenue to roundabouts.
    • This project is managed by the City of Tampa.
    • Construction Cost: $1,759,700
    • Status: Design is underway. The project is funded for construction in FY 2019.

  • Spring Hill Elementary School (Project Number 434309-1)
    • Location: Various Locations near Spring Hill Elementary School.
    • Description: New Sidewalk
    • This project is managed by Hernando County
    • Construction Cost: $437,000
    • Funded by Transportation Alternative Program (TAP).
    • Status: Design is completed. Construction is funded for FY 2018.
  • Sexton Elementary School (Project Number 434497-1)
    • Location: 19th Street from 39th Avenue North/42nd Avenue North to South of 42nd Street North/Haines Bayshore Rd./54th Street North
    • Description: New Sidewalk
    • This project is managed by Pinellas County
    • Construction Cost: $265,600
    • Funded by Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) and Florida SRTS Program
    • Status: Currently under design. Construction is funded for FY 2019.
  • Mittye Locke Elementary School (Project Number 435477-1)
    • Location: Wiggins Drive from SR 54 to Trouble Creek Road
    • Description: New Sidewalk
    • This project is managed by Pasco County
    • Construction Cost: $190,700
    • Funded by Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) and Florida SRTS Program
    • Status: Currently under design. Construction is funded for FY 2019.
  • Deltona Elementary School (Project Number 436708-1)
    • Location: Deltona Boulevard from Spring Hill Drive to Begonia Street.
    • Description: New Sidewalk & Pedestrian bridge
    • This project is managed by Pasco County
    • Construction Cost: $321,960
    • Funded by Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) and Florida SRTS Program
    • Status: Design is funded for FY 2019. Construction is funded for FY 2021.
  • Westside Elementary School (Project Number 436709-1)
    • Location: Various locations along Kenlake Avenue, Applegate Street, Airmont Drive, Tyler Avenue, and Halstead Street.
    • Description: New Sidewalk
    • This project is managed by Hernando County
    • Construction Cost: $291,927
    • Funded by Transportation Alternative Program (TAP) and Florida SRTS Program
    • Status: Design is funded for FY 2018. Construction is funded for FY 2021.
  • JD Floyd Elementary School (Project Number 436710-1)
    • Location: Various Locations near JD Floyd Elementary School
    • Description: New Sidewalk
    • This project is managed by Hernando County
    • Construction Cost: $330,700
    • Funded by Transportation Alternative Program (TAP)
    • Status: Design is currently underway. Construction is funded for FY 2019.
  • Explorer K8 School (Project Number 436711-1)
    • Location: Various Locations near Explorer K8 School
    • Description: New Sidewalk
    • This project is managed by Hernando County
    • Construction Cost: $652,400
    • Funded by Transportation Alternative Program (TAP)
    • Status: Design is currently underway. Construction is funded for FY 2019.
  • Cypress Creek Elementary School (Project Number 437242-1)
    • Location: 19th Avenue NE from West of Salida Del Sol Drive to East of Beth Shields Way
    • Description: New Sidewalk
    • This project is managed by Hillsborough County
    • Construction Cost: $150,765
    • Funded by Transportation Alternative Program (TAP)
    • Status: Design is currently underway. Construction is funded for FY 2018.
  • Stowers Elementary School (Project Number 437244-1)
    • Location: Boyette Rd from Gentle Woods to Barrington Stowers Dr
    • Description: New Sidewalk
    • This project is managed by Hillsborough County
    • Construction Cost: $137,196
    • Funded by Transportation Alternative Program (TAP)
    • Status: Design is currently underway. Construction is funded for FY 2018.
  • Eisenhower Middle School (Project Number 437248-1)
    • Location: Old Big Bend Rd from west of Covington Garden Drive to west of Lincoln Road
    • This project is managed by Hillsborough County
    • Construction Cost: $200,835
    • Funded by Transportation Alternative Program (TAP)
    • Status: Design is currently underway. Construction is funded for FY 2018.
  • Brooksville Elementary School (Project Number 436712-1)
    • Location: Howell Ave from Croom Rd to US 41
    • This project is managed by Hernando County
    • Construction Cost: $228,914
